June 2019 Red Aces Newsletter

Red Aces road support in May to open 2019 season

The 2019 Lane United Football Season kicked off in Victoria and Vancouver BC, against the Victoria Highlanders FC and TSS Rovers in USL2 league play on May 10 and 12th. The Red Aces made the trip and cheered the boys on to a well played 1-1 draw with the Highlanders and a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Rovers.

There was some great banter with the Lake Side Boys on the island and the Swangardians at fantastic Swangard Stadium in Burnaby BC. Many beers were consumed in the cross-cultural exchange and we all got to see some quality football, including a great women’s match between the new Vancouver Isle Football Club and the TSS Rovers women’s academy players.

For the second year in a row, both teams played a LUFC “home” match in lovely Bend, Oregon on Sunday May 26th, and since “we always score…..three in Bend!!” we hung three on an already hurting PTFCU23 unit and somehow allowed them one (should’ve shut them out!) in a triumphant 3-1 LUFC victory! We got to try out the new siren and pop our first smoke of the year. Our friends at the Bunk + Brew shuttled us up to the match and back and made us feel right at home as we celebrated the victory!

Gritty, chippy 1-1 draw in LUFC home opener with Sounders U23

The weather was nice and the new place was buzzing for the home opener! Both teams had already fought to a 1-1 draw earlier in May, and the standstill continued in a rough outing for everyone (especially the officials) during the 1-1 draw out at Marist. Hopefully the Reds will take the season series with a victory over the Minnows when they head back to Sumner High School on June 23rd.

Rematch with PTFCU23 at Marist, Sat 6/8 7pm

The Boys in Red have had a chance to rest and train, and LUFC should field a strong unit vs the rejuvenated Twigs, who took 4 points off Calgary FC last weekend. Those Salem guys are probably making the trip, so we must show up in mid-season form with our chants and support for the Boys!

Red Aces reminders: Be nice, respect others, make the match our focus

We have a new home at Marist High School, and it’s a different environment than we’re used to. So we all need to adjust a bit. We are guests at this facility after all, and our club is depending on us to be good ambassadors and contribute to the positive atmosphere.

The Lane United season is SO short as it is, and the two hours of play on the pitch per night needs to be the focus of our energy and attention. Let’s be there for the Boys in Red when they need us the most! Focus on the match and encourage the players and show your love for the GAME! That’s why we are here…and it goes away fast if we don’t keep our focus.

I am asking everyone to please touch base with our rules of conduct and expectations of decent human behavior here in the Red Aces. We’ve worked hard to become one of the better supporters’ groups in the PDL/USL2 and we DO NOT want anything to distract from the good standing the Red Aces and our club have with this community. THANK YOU FOR TAKING A FEW MINUTES FOR READING THESE. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
